Ikea hits target to use 100% renewable energy

Ikea has announced that it has hit its target to use 100% renewable energy across all of their Nordic operations by 2015, and remain on course to produce as much renewable energy as they use worldwide by 2020.

Ikea now produce approximately 361Gwh of green energy across their 46 wind turbines located in Sweden, the equivalent electricity supply for 72,000 homes. With the added energy produced from their biomass generators in their stores, they now claim the total renewable energy they produce is more than their entire Nordic operations, including offices, stores, factories and distribution centres.

The companies Chief Sustainability Officer, Steve Howard, has stated that they plan to invest a further £1 billion by the end of this year into wind and solar power.
