President Obama to take huge step towards tackling climate change

Barack Obama will take what has been described as ‘the biggest step to tackling climate change’ when he announces his revised Clean Power Plan. President Obama has been very vocal throughout his two terms in office about the effects of climate change, and has recently been quoted saying ‘climate change is not a problem for another generation, not any more.’

Under the plan each state will be set a target to reduce their carbon emissions with the overall goal to reduce the USA’s carbon emissions by a third over the next 15 years. The main emphasis will be on wind and solar power to replace coal power plants, which are the USA’s biggest emitter of carbon.

Hilary Clinton who is currently favourite to be the next president has vowed to continue the plan if she is elected. She has been very critical of her republican opponents who have stated that they would reverse the plan.

President Obama added that if action was not taken to tackle climate change, it would effect peoples health and weather conditions in a catastrophic way.
